For her sweet 50th, the talk show mogul threw a five-day star-studded birthday celebration that began with a private 75 guest dinner at Chicago’s Metropolitan Club where she was honored with a tribute to her life. The next day, there was a birthday celebration on air that included several surprise celebrity guests and a 400 lb banana cake. The following day, Oprah and guests enjoyed a flowery, women’s-only luncheon at the Hotel Bel-air where Maya Angelou read a poem prepared especially for Oprah. And for the main event, guests enjoyed themselves under a “Club O” tent at a gold-themed party which included 50 violinists, 200 waiters, a circular white-chocolate-raspberry-filled pound cake with 23 carat gold, and dancing until 4 a.m. The next day, festivities ended with Oprah treating everyone to brunch at the nearby San Ysidro Ranch Resort.
